I want to ride my bicycle: Proposed Law for BC Cyclists

Based off a controversial Ontario law, BC cyclist advocates are calling for a law requiring motorists to provide one metre of space when passing cyclists on the road. Ontario passed their law last September, fining motorists $110 and two demerit points for driving less than a metre away from a cyclist.

The public has had mixed reactions towards the proposed law, with most people arguing that cars would be forced to cross the yellow line dividing two-way traffic, or would be forced to drive at the speed of the cyclist, thereby bringing city traffic to a halt.

What do you think? Should drivers be expected to provide that much space to cyclists? Or is there a better way to ensure the safety of cyclists in the city?
